A Dynodex record can be listed either by "Business" or by "Name". The line by which a record is listed is the "First Line".
As you enter a new record, here's how the "First Line" will be determined:
• If there is only a Name and no Business, the "First Line" must be the Name.
• If there is only a Business and no Name, the "First Line" must be the Business.
• If there is both a Name and a Business, the "First Line" could be either. You must specify whether it's Business or Name by pressing "Cmd-comma", which will toggle between "List by Business" and "List by Name". ("List by Business" means the First Line is the Business. "List by Name" means the First Line is the Name.)
• First Line Preference: If you would choose to list most new records with both a Business and a Name by Business, you can tell Dynodex to automatically list by Business (and vice versa if you usually prefer to list by Name). This is done in "Preferences", by choosing "Business" (or "Name") in the "First Line Pref" box. This preference will affect any record you type in or import.
"First Line" is available as a field in the Find, Select, Sort and Field Setup dialogs.
• First Line and Sorting: The best way to sort Dynodex is by "First Line"--this way it will be sorted by whatever information shows at the top of each entry.
• First Line and Selecting: "First Line" is very useful when you want to select all the records in the "A" Section of your address book: choose "Select Records" (Cmd-R) and create a selection for "First Line" starts with "A".
• First Line and Field Setup: When printing from Dynodex, you will want some records printed by first line rather than by just business or just name.
SECOND LINE: In records where you have both a Name and a Business, one of them is the First Line. This forces the other one to be the "Second Line". If Business is the First Line, Name will be the Second Line, and vice versa.
